The Soyuz 7KT-0K is an early variant of the Soyuz spacecraft intended to transport crews to and from the Salyut 1 space station. It flew in space only twice.[1]

Design

The Soyuz 7KT-OK was a modification of the Soyuz 7K-OK, the differences between the two being a crew transfer tunnel and a newer lightweight docking system.[1]

The spacecraft could have been a derivative of the Soyuz 7K-TK transport spacecraft.[1]

Flights

The Soyuz 7KT-OK flew only twice, Soyuz 10 and Soyuz 11.[1]

On its maiden flight, the 7KT-OK successfully launched into earth orbit, but failed to dock completely with the Salyut 1 space station. Upon reentry, the spacecraft encountered problems with toxic fumes.[2]

On its second flight, the spacecraft achieved the first successful docking with the world's first space station, Salyut 1. All three mission crew, however, were killed upon reentry due to a faulty seal on the spacecraft that allowed air to escape the Soyuz.[3]
